RESOURCES THAT HAVE MADE ME LAUGH, CRY AND FEEL EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN FOR MY PERSONAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING:
Two resources I highly suggest exploring are:
-
Community Reinforcement: Family Training (CRAFT)
-
The Invitation to Change (ITC) model
CRAFT teaches compassion-first engagement skills for friends and loved ones of someone suffering from substance use issues. The implementation of these skills has been empirically shown to promote a supportive environment for those in need. Studies have shown that 67% of family members utilizing CRAFT methods successfully motivated their loved ones to enter treatment, compared to under 20% of those using the Al-Anon methodology.
The Invitation to Change method is focused on using coping strategies that can foster an environment to effectively create change for your loved one. The focus is on making the behaviours make sense, providing tools to encourage a shift in behaviour, and putting in the time to consistently practice self-care and positive reinforcement. The ITC model is not a one-size-fits-all approach. By shining a light on the uniqueness of your loved one’s situation, your ability to understand their behaviour is vastly improved.
You can learn more about these approaches HERE.
